The Dallas Morning News
We Recommend Eric Roberson, Dateline Dallas - February 11, 2008
“Democrats in Richardson, Plano, and West Dallas can pick among three choices for the challenger to the House seat now held by Republican Pete Sessions. Dallas lawyer Eric Roberson, 43, shows the most intellectual heft and political drive to take on this uphill struggle.
His two opponents, retired lawyer Dennis C. Burns and Steve Love, a retired United Methodist minister, are older and assert that maturity should be a consideration. Mr. Love, 74, is a lifelong Democrat who has tried but failed to win elective office on two previous occasions. Mr. Burns, 54, has never run for public office. So age doesn't necessarily translate into political experience.
What matters are the candidates' ideas, and on that score, Mr. Roberson demonstrates knowledge and offers the most realistic approach to solving problems such as immigration reform and America's fiscal crisis. He also knows how his opposition thinks, having left the Republican Party after becoming convinced in 2006 that its leadership was intolerant to moderates.
Mr. Roberson doesn't live in District 32, but works there. He notes that Mr. Sessions also lived outside the district when he was elected. It's a valid point, which underscores that this is a candidate who comes to the race with answers at the ready.”
